FOCUS AREAS

2020 has been a hard year globally, but most of all it has uncovered the vulnerability of underserved populations, even in modern metropolises like Hong Kong and Singapore.  We believe that addressing these populations not only helps those who may not be able to help themselves, but can also deliver systemic economic benefit.  As each of the below areas is huge, we plan to spend most of 2021 having conversations with people who have done great work (of which there are many!) to refine our thinking and ensure that our funding goes to where it needs to most.

MIGRANT WORKERS

Singapore has excellent, world class healthcare infrastructure. However, the quality of residential care for the elderly - while adequate for those at the very lowest income end of the population, does not translate to the lower middle classes, or middle classes, at least not to standards that many would themselves admit to accepting.

e.g.

  • Remote monitoring devices

  • Innovative residential care and financing models

Asian students regularly top global rankings in science and mathematics, and often do well academically in overseas institutions. However, this hides the fact that there are many who are not able to conform to the approach of education in this country, and those who just do not start from the same level as everyone else.

e.g.

  • Innovative mobile / digital education formats

  • Cloud-hosted education resources

  • Volunteer matching services

Our country is built off the efforts of countless migrant workers in the construction, cleaning, domestic work and other sectors which the majority of Singaporeans no longer aspire to.  However, while many improvements have been made, their welfare continues to be an issue for public debate.

e.g.

  • Financial inclusion services

  • Worker advocacy helplines / communities
